Storm Damage Roof Repair in Godfrey, IL

The Riverbend gets hit. Spring tornado watches, summer derechos, August hailstorms – Godfrey homes take real damage every year. Trill Roofing handles wind, hail, and storm-damage roof repair start to finish: free post-storm inspection, photo-documented damage report, adjuster meet, and the repair work itself. We work directly with your insurance carrier so you only pay your deductible.

What storm damage on a Godfrey roof actually looks like

Wind damage and hail damage show up differently – and both can be subtle from the ground.

Hail damage: impact bruises in the asphalt matting, granule loss in circular patterns, exposed fiberglass mat at impact points, dented metal flashing, and dings on soft metals (downspouts, gutters, satellite dishes – these are what we look at first as “witness marks” to confirm a hail event hit your address). Hail bruises can sit on a roof for months before they start leaking, which is why post-storm inspections matter even if nothing’s currently dripping.

Wind damage: lifted or creased shingles (the seal strip broke and the shingle is hinging), missing shingles, exposed fasteners, displaced ridge cap, lifted flashing at chimneys and sidewalls. Wind damage from a single severe gust can take six months to manifest as a leak.

Storm chase indicators we use: NOAA storm data for your zip code on the date you suspect, hail size reports from local spotters, neighbor damage patterns. Godfrey saw measurable hail in 2024 (May, July) and significant wind events in 2023 (June derecho) and 2025 (spring).

Filing a storm damage claim in Illinois – how it works

Illinois gives you 2 years from the date of loss to file a property damage claim (215 ILCS 5/143.1). Practically, sooner is better – adjusters look at storm date proximity when evaluating.

Here’s how a Trill Roofing storm claim goes:

  1. Free inspection. We come out, get on the roof, photograph everything, mark damage points, and pull NOAA storm data for the date you suspect.
  2. Damage report. You get a written report with photos, location maps, and shingle test square documentation (the industry standard is a 10×10 test square per roof slope).
  3. You file the claim with your carrier. Most homeowners file with State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, or American Family – these are IL’s largest. We do not file the claim for you (only you or your public adjuster can do that), but we provide everything you need.
  4. Adjuster meet. Once the carrier assigns an adjuster, we coordinate a meet at your property. We’re on the roof with the adjuster so the scope of work matches reality.
  5. Supplements (if needed). Insurance scopes often miss code-required items (ice barrier, drip edge, flashing replacement). We submit supplemental documentation when items are missing.
  6. Repair. Once the claim approves, we schedule the work and bill the carrier directly. You pay your deductible (typically $1,000-$2,500 in Madison County) and we cover the rest with the carrier.

Why we don’t “waive deductibles”

If anyone tells you they’ll waive your insurance deductible, walk away. It’s fraud under Illinois law (215 ILCS 5/155.36) and it puts you on the hook if the carrier investigates. The deductible exists in your policy – pretending it doesn’t is the same as falsifying a claim.

Storm-chasing contractors push deductible-waiving offers hard. Trill Roofing doesn’t and we won’t.

Emergency tarping and same-day response

If a storm just hit and you have an active leak, call us at (618) 304-7094. We tarp emergency openings to prevent further interior damage while the claim gets filed and the repair scheduled. Tarping is a separate line item in most insurance policies and is typically covered.

Even if your roof looks fine after a storm, schedule a free post-storm inspection within 30 days if you saw hail of any size in your yard. Asphalt shingle bruises don’t always leak immediately – many sit for 6-18 months before water starts coming in.

The contractors we won’t ever be

Every spring after a storm, Godfrey driveways get door-knocked by out-of-state crews. Some are legitimate. Many are not. Red flags we watch for:

  • No physical Madison County address
  • Vehicles with out-of-state plates and no permanent wrap
  • Promises to “work with your insurance” while pushing you to sign before the adjuster sees the roof
  • Asking for a deposit before the claim is approved
  • Telling you they’ll “waive your deductible” or “pay your deductible”
  • No verifiable IL roofing license (verify at IDFPR’s public license lookup)

Trill Roofing is in Godfrey year-round. We’re not chasing storms across state lines. We’ll be here in five years when the warranty needs to be honored.
