Materials & Shingles · FAQ
Does synthetic underlayment affect the shingle warranty?
It can extend it. GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning all offer enhanced warranties — typically 50 years versus 30, with non-prorated coverage for the first 10 to 20 years — when you install a full system: their brand of underlayment, starter strip, hip and ridge cap, and ventilation. Trill is a certified installer for all three, which is what unlocks those system warranties.
Substituting generic synthetic underlayment doesn’t void the basic shingle warranty, but it does drop you back to the standard 30-year limited coverage that’s prorated after year five. On a $15,000 replacement, the system warranty is worth roughly $4,000 to $7,000 in covered repair value over the roof’s life. Trill defaults to the matching-brand system on every install.
