Materials & Shingles · FAQ
Steel drip edge or aluminum? Which holds up in Illinois?
Both work. Steel (galvanized or galvalume) is the historical standard and resists denting from ladders. Aluminum is rust-proof, lighter, and easier to cut clean on long runs. Trill defaults to aluminum because the salted roads in Madison County winters accelerate corrosion at fascia-line metal, and we’ve replaced too many rust-streaked steel drip edges 12 to 15 years in.
The exception is a metal roof installation, where steel drip edge in a matching color factors into the system warranty. For shingle roofs, aluminum at 0.019 inch thickness in a color that matches the fascia or shingle (we stock white, brown, black, and weathered wood) is what we install on 90% of jobs.
