Repair & Maintenance · FAQ
Should I clean my own gutters or hire it out?
Single-story homes with a friend to spot the ladder: self-clean is fine and saves $200 to $300 per cleaning. Two-story homes, homes with steep slopes, or homes where the ladder reach is awkward: hire it. Falls from ladders are the leading cause of homeowner injury during exterior maintenance, and a $250 cleaning is cheaper than an emergency room visit.
The right cleaning frequency in Madison County is twice a year (late spring and late fall) for homes with significant tree cover, once a year for homes without. Gutter guards (which Trill installs as an upgrade) cut the cleaning frequency by about 70% but don’t eliminate it — fine debris still accumulates over time. Worth it for hard-to-reach gutters, less critical for single-story access.
