If I have ridge vent, do I need to close my gable vents?
Yes — Trill closes them on every install. Gable vents on the same attic as ridge vent create a short-circuit: outside air comes in the high gable vent (because it’s closer to ridge height), exits the ridge vent, and never moves through the attic at the floor level where the hot, moist air actually sits. The result is a worse-ventilated attic than ridge vent alone.
The fix is two-minute work: we cover gable vents from the inside with rigid foam and seal the perimeter. The exterior gable vent stays in place as a visual feature; airflow no longer passes through it. Soffit-to-ridge becomes the only airflow path, which is exactly what you want.
