Where does Illinois code require ice and water shield?
IRC R905.1.2 requires ice and water shield from the eave edge to a point at least 24 inches inside the building’s exterior wall line. On most Madison County homes that means the first three to six feet of every eave gets ice and water shield in addition to synthetic underlayment.
Trill exceeds code on three details. We extend ice and water shield into all valleys (where ice dams form most often), around all penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights), and on low-slope sections under 4/12 pitch. The added material runs about $0.30 per square foot of coverage but cuts ice-dam leak claims roughly in half in our service area. We bill it explicitly so you can see the coverage on the estimate.
