Should I get a second opinion on the report?

For ‘repair soon’ or ‘urgent’ findings of $1,500+, yes — it’s good practice. Trill encourages it. Independent contractors verifying findings keeps everyone honest. If we say a chimney flashing repair is $2,400, getting a second contractor to inspect and quote is reasonable due diligence. If their assessment differs significantly, that’s information.

What we don’t recommend: the storm-chaser approach where multiple contractors give wildly different opinions specifically to oversell. A legitimate second opinion comes from a licensed local contractor with a physical office and a multi-year track record. If a second opinion is dramatically lower than Trill’s quote, ask what’s not in scope on the cheaper bid. If it’s dramatically higher, ask what justifies the premium. Either direction can be a flag.
