The Riverbend gets hit. Spring tornado watches, summer derechos, August hailstorms – Elsah homes take real damage every year. Trill Roofing handles wind, hail, and storm-damage roof repair start to finish: free post-storm inspection, photo-documented damage report, adjuster meet, and the repair work itself. We work directly with your insurance carrier so you only pay your deductible.
What storm damage looks like on an asphalt roof
Wind damage and hail damage show up differently – and both can be subtle from the ground.
Hail damage: impact bruises in the asphalt matting, granule loss in circular patterns, exposed fiberglass mat at impact points, dented metal flashing, and dings on soft metals (downspouts, gutters, satellite dishes – these are “witness marks” we look for first to confirm a hail event hit your address). Hail bruises can sit on a roof for months before they start leaking, which is why post-storm inspections matter even if nothing’s currently dripping.
Wind damage: lifted or creased shingles (the seal strip broke and the shingle is hinging), missing shingles, exposed fasteners, displaced ridge cap, lifted flashing at chimneys and sidewalls. Wind damage from a single severe gust can take six months to manifest as a leak.
Storm exposure in Elsah
Roofing work in Elsah’s historic district may require additional review – we coordinate with the village to confirm material and color choices meet any historic-preservation guidelines before pulling permits. The river-valley microclimate means more humidity, more shade, and more moss/algae issues than higher-elevation locations.
Filing a storm damage claim in Illinois – how it works
Illinois gives you 2 years from the date of loss to file a property damage claim (215 ILCS 5/143.1). Sooner is better – adjusters look at storm date proximity when evaluating.
- Free inspection. We come out, get on the roof, photograph everything, mark damage points, and pull NOAA storm data for the date you suspect.
- Damage report. Written report with photos, location maps, and shingle test square documentation (10×10 test square per roof slope).
- You file the claim with your carrier. State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, American Family. We provide the documentation; only you (or your public adjuster) can file.
- Adjuster meet. Once the adjuster is assigned, we coordinate a meet at your property. We’re on the roof with the adjuster so the scope of work matches reality.
- Supplements. Insurance scopes often miss code-required items (ice barrier, drip edge, flashing). We submit supplemental documentation when items are missing.
- Repair. Once approved, we schedule the work and bill the carrier directly. You pay your deductible (typically $1,000-$2,500) and we handle the rest.
Why we won’t “waive your deductible”
If anyone tells you they’ll waive your insurance deductible, walk away. It’s fraud under Illinois law (215 ILCS 5/155.36) and it puts you on the hook if the carrier investigates. The deductible exists in your policy – pretending it doesn’t is the same as falsifying a claim. Storm-chasing contractors push deductible-waiving offers hard. Trill Roofing doesn’t and won’t.
Emergency tarping
If a storm just hit and you have an active leak, call us at (618) 304-7094. We tarp emergency openings to prevent further interior damage while the claim gets filed. Tarping is a separate line item in most insurance policies and is typically covered.
Even if your roof looks fine after a storm, schedule a free post-storm inspection within 30 days if you saw hail of any size in your yard. Bruises don’t always leak immediately – many sit for 6-18 months before water comes in.
