Why do after-hours emergency repairs cost more?

Three factors drive the premium. First, after-hours labor is paid at 1.5x to 2x base rate per Illinois labor practice. Second, after-hours response requires a single-job dispatch (not bundled with other work) so the trip cost amortizes across one job. Third, safety is harder in low light or extreme weather, requiring additional equipment and more time per task.

Trill’s after-hours emergency premium runs about 35 to 50% above standard hours. We have a 24-hour emergency line and dispatch within 2 to 4 hours for genuine emergencies (active leaks, storm damage, structural issues). For non-emergency repairs that can wait until morning, we recommend waiting — same work at 50% less cost. The line between ’emergency’ and ‘can wait’ usually involves whether water is actively entering the home.
