Does inadequate ventilation void my shingle warranty?
It can, and manufacturers do check. GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning all require attic ventilation meeting the IRC 1:300 ratio as a warranty condition. If a warranty claim goes through and the manufacturer’s inspector finds undersized ventilation, they will often deny the claim citing ‘premature failure due to excessive attic heat.’
Trill documents the ventilation calculation on every install — a measured attic floor, a measured intake area, and a measured exhaust area, all in the project file. If you ever file a warranty claim, that documentation defeats the most common denial reason. We also explicitly point out and recommend ventilation upgrades whenever the existing system is undersized; that’s not an upsell, that’s protecting your investment.
