Insurance & Storm Damage · FAQ

How do I tell hail damage from normal wear?

Three differences. First, hail damage shows discrete impact marks (circular bruises 1/4 to 1 inch in diameter) with a dark center where granules dislodged. Normal wear shows uniform granule thinning across the slope. Second, hail damage shows on the up-facing surfaces only (not under eaves or in protected areas); wear is uniform. Third, hail damage is concentrated on south and west-facing slopes (which take the most direct hit from a typical storm front); wear distributes evenly.

If you find round impact marks on south/west slopes only, document with photos and call Trill before calling your insurance company. We can confirm whether the damage is claim-worthy (typically 8 to 12+ confirmed impacts per 10×10 area is the carrier threshold) and walk you through the claim documentation. We don’t take a percentage of claim payouts the way some storm-chasing roofers do.
