How does roof pitch affect replacement cost?
Significantly above 8/12. Up to about 6/12 pitch, a roof installs at roughly the same labor rate. Above that, crew productivity drops because of harness requirements, slower material handling, and the added care moving on the slope. 9/12 to 12/12 adds about 20 to 35% to labor cost; above 12/12 (which is rare in Madison County) adds 50% or more.
Material cost stays roughly the same per square; it’s labor and safety equipment that drives the premium. A 30-square home with 5/12 average pitch quotes around $14,000 to $17,000 in Trill’s service area. The same area at 10/12 quotes more like $17,000 to $21,000. Trill’s estimate breaks pitch effect out as a separate line so you can see what you’re paying for.
