How does standing-seam handle Illinois snow load?
Better than asphalt. Standing-seam panels are continuous from ridge to eave, with vertical seams that water and ice can’t penetrate, even under prolonged snow cover. The smooth surface also sheds snow faster — usually 5 to 10 days earlier than asphalt in the same conditions, which prevents the freeze-thaw cycle that creates ice dams.
Trill installs snow guards on metal roofs above garage doors, walkways, and porches where falling snow could damage property or block exits. The guards are color-matched and cost about $35 to $50 per foot of guard rail. They preserve the natural shed-ability of the metal panel while protecting the high-traffic zones below.
