Do standing-seam paint finishes fade in Illinois sun?

Modern Kynar 500 (PVDF) finishes resist fading dramatically better than the older silicone-modified polyester (SMP) finishes. After 20 years in Illinois UV, Kynar typically shows under 5 Delta-E color change (imperceptible to the naked eye); SMP shows 10 to 20 Delta-E (visible fade). The warranty backs this up: Kynar carries a 30 to 40 year finish warranty, SMP a 20 to 25 year.

The cost difference is roughly $1.50 per square foot. Trill specifies Kynar on every standing-seam install — the finish lasts as long as the metal does, which means no mid-life repainting and no awkward stage where the roof structurally is fine but the color looks 20 years old.
