Insurance & Storm Damage · FAQ
Does Illinois require roofing contractors to be licensed?
Yes. Illinois requires a state Roofing Contractor License (Class A residential, Class B commercial) for any contractor doing roofing work. The license requires a bond, liability insurance, and worker’s comp. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation maintains a searchable database — verify any contractor’s license before signing.
License number alone isn’t enough. Check that the license is current (not expired), check that it matches the contractor’s actual company name (not a shell or DBA), and check for complaints or disciplinary actions on file. Trill’s license number is on every estimate and contract. Storm-chasing contractors from out of state sometimes work without an Illinois license; that’s both illegal and means you have no recourse if work fails.
