What’s the difference between manufacturer and workmanship warranty?
Manufacturer warranty covers defects in the shingle itself — granule loss, premature failure, manufacturing flaws. Workmanship warranty covers installation defects — leaks at flashings, improperly fastened shingles, ventilation errors. They’re separate protections from different sources.
A typical shingle has a 30-year limited manufacturer warranty (prorated after year 5 or 10). Trill’s workmanship warranty is 10 years, non-prorated. The two cover different failure modes: a shingle that delaminates at year 8 is a manufacturer claim; a leak at the chimney flashing at year 8 is a workmanship claim. Always ask any installer what their workmanship warranty is — that’s the warranty that actually protects you from common failures, and the one a fly-by-night installer can’t honor.
