After your Trill Roofing installation is complete, we handle the manufacturer warranty registration with GAF, CertainTeed, or Owens Corning – depending on which line was installed. This is a step that gets skipped by less-organized contractors, and skipping it can void or weaken your warranty when you need it most. Here’s what we do, when we do it, and what you receive.
Why warranty registration matters
Most premium shingle warranties require registration within a specific window – typically 60 days from installation – to activate the full warranty terms. Without registration:
- The standard (limited) warranty applies, not the extended tier
- Some manufacturers reduce the labor warranty period
- Transferability to a new owner may be limited or voided
- Specific premium warranties (GAF Silver Pledge, CertainTeed SureStart Plus, OC System Plus) cannot be registered later – the window is hard
The registration is a 5-minute task. The consequences of skipping it can be tens of thousands of dollars in warranty value lost.
When we register your warranty
Within 30-60 days of your installation completing:
- We verify the install passed final inspection
- We document the products installed (line, color, batch numbers)
- We submit registration through the manufacturer’s contractor portal (GAF, CertainTeed, or OC)
- You receive a confirmation email with your warranty certificate
- The manufacturer mails you a printed warranty document within 4-6 weeks
You don’t need to do anything during this process – we handle it on your behalf.
GAF warranty tiers we register
As a GAF Certified Contractor, Trill Roofing can register:
GAF Silver Pledge Warranty – standard tier:
- 50-year material warranty
- 10-year workmanship warranty
- Transferable to one subsequent owner
- Available with standard architectural installs
GAF Silver Pledge Warranty – mid-tier:
- Lifetime material warranty
- 20-year tear-off and disposal coverage
- Transferable
- Requires GAF system: GAF starter, GAF ridge cap, GAF underlayment
GAF Silver Pledge Warranty – top tier:
- Lifetime material warranty
- 25-year workmanship warranty backed by GAF directly (not just the contractor)
- Includes tear-off and disposal coverage
- Transferable
- Requires GAF Certified Contractor (us) + full GAF system installation
For premium installs, the Golden Pledge is the recommended tier. The labor warranty backing by GAF means even if Trill Roofing went out of business (we won’t), GAF stands behind the workmanship warranty.
CertainTeed warranty tiers
For CertainTeed Landmark and Pro line installs, we register:
- SureStart Warranty – standard, included with the shingle purchase
- SureStart Plus – extended; requires CertainTeed-credentialed contractor (we hold this credential)
- 4-Star Warranty – top tier; requires full CertainTeed system + certified contractor
Owens Corning warranty
For OC Duration installs:
- OC System Protection – standard system warranty
- OC Preferred Protection – enhanced tier for full OC system + Preferred Contractor (we qualify)
- OC Platinum Protection – top tier; lifetime workmanship coverage
What’s in your warranty certificate
Once registered, your warranty certificate (PDF email + printed mailing) includes:
- Property address
- Installation date
- Shingle product line and color
- Warranty tier (Silver, System Plus, Golden Pledge, etc.)
- Coverage terms (material, workmanship, tear-off, transferability)
- Claim process if you ever need to file
- Warranty registration number
File this with your home maintenance records. It’s also handy at resale – a registered warranty transferable to the new owner is a marketable feature.
If you have a warranty claim later
In the rare event of a warranty claim:
- Call Trill Roofing at (618) 304-7094 first
- We inspect the issue and determine whether it’s a material defect (manufacturer warranty), workmanship issue (our warranty), or unrelated damage (e.g., storm – separate insurance claim)
- For material defects, we file with the manufacturer on your behalf
- For workmanship, we handle the repair under our warranty
You shouldn’t have to call the manufacturer directly. We handle the entire claim coordination.
