Vinyl or aluminum soffit panels — which lasts longer in Illinois?
Aluminum lasts longer (30 to 40 years versus 25 to 30 for vinyl) and resists pest damage better. Vinyl looks indistinguishable from aluminum from the ground, costs about 15% less, and stays color-stable longer (aluminum painted finish fades faster than vinyl integral color over 20+ years).
Trill’s recommendation depends on the home: aluminum on homes with squirrel or raccoon issues (vinyl tabs are easier to pull or chew through), vinyl on homes where curb appeal stability matters more. Both products use the same ventilation panel sizes, so neither option locks you out of ventilation upgrades during the install. Trill stocks both and quotes both whenever soffit replacement is part of a job.
